Abortion

What’s your plan?

Deciding what to do about an unplanned pregnancy can be one of the most difficult decisions you ever have to make. You may feel overwhelmed trying to figure out where to go for the answers to your questions. You may not even know what to ask!

For example:

  • Do you know for certain that you are pregnant?
  • How many weeks along are you?
  • What type of abortion would you be having?
  • Is the pregnancy located in the uterus?

If you are considering abortion all of these questions are important to your decision. The type of abortion you receive, the number of visits necessary, the cost of the procedure, and the level of risk involved are all affected by the answers to the above questions. We can help you become more educated and knowledgeable about abortion including abortion options, risks and facts.

How can Woman to Woman help with this?

Woman to Woman has a knowledgeable understanding staff here to help you get the information you need to take the next steps forward. Your Client Advocate will walk you through the following step by step process, as well as all of the information required by the state to be read before your abortion procedure.

1. Step One – Confirm your pregnancy with a test

We can confirm your pregnancy using a lab-grade urine test that detects the presence of hCG, a hormone produced after conception. These tests are 99.9% accurate, free of charge, and all results are kept confidential. A nurse consultation will be offered regardless of your results.

What information does this provide and why is this information important?

Pregnancy symptoms are not enough to confirm a pregnancy. You must have a confirmed viable, *in this case meaning the pregnancy has not miscarried and is not ectopic*, pregnancy prior to scheduling an abortion procedure.

2. Step two – Ultrasound

The medical team at Woman to Woman includes nurses trained in sonography. We offer ultrasound examinations free of charge in order to confirm the presence of a viable, *in this case meaning the pregnancy has not miscarried and is not ectopic*, uterine pregnancy, determine how far along you are, and to identify possible miscarriage or other medical concerns.

The answers to the above questions may affect:

  • The type of procedure you have
  • The amount of time you have to make a decision
  • The associated cost
  • The number of visits necessary
  • The level of risk involved

Is the pregnancy viable, *meaning the pregnancy has not miscarried and is not ectopic*?

About 10-20 percent of every recognized pregnancy will end in miscarriage. *

* Miscarriage is the spontaneous loss of a pregnancy before the 20th week. About 10 to 20 percent of known pregnancies end in miscarriage. But the actual number is likely higher because many miscarriages occur so early in pregnancy that a woman doesn’t realize she’s pregnant. Is the pregnancy located in my uterus?

If the pregnancy is located anywhere but in the uterus (ectopic), an abortion will not resolve this issue and may even be hazardous to your health. This is considered an emergency medical situation.

What type of procedure can I have?

There are different types of abortion procedures. The type of procedure you have is determined by how many weeks pregnant you are.

3. Step three – Support

You should be fully informed and have a strong support team in place. At Woman to Woman a trained advocate will walk beside you every step of the way, helping you to get answers to all of your questions.

What are my options?

This is a big decision – perhaps the biggest you have ever had to make. And this is your decision. No one else can make it for you. You owe it to yourself to get the facts about each of your options.
